My Girl Fight; Type 1 Diabetes

Updated: May 1, 2022

With Special Guest: Stephanie Rook McCullough

Type 1 diabetes, which was formerly known as juvenile diabetes, is a chronic autoimmune condition that makes the body unable to produce insulin, which is the hormone that regulates blood sugar. Without insulin, our bodies cannot use the sugar in our bloodstream as energy, causing people to experience Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)... which can cause long term organ damage.

United States Fast Stats:

  • Approximately 1.84 million Americans have type 1 diabetes.

  • By 2050, 5 million people are expected to be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

  • An estimated 64,000 people are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year.

  • 200,000 people under the age of 20 years old have type 1 diabetes.

Unfortunately, the likely hood that you or someone you love has Type 1 diabetes is pretty high. Yet, many still lack the understanding of the impacts the health condition has. Including myself! For this reason, I have asked Stephanie Rook McCullough to join me as my special guest in Girl Fight's first ever sheshed.live video / podcast, My Girl Fight Episode 1 April 2022.

February 2022 marked Stephanie's 30th year as a Type 1 Diabetic. In the below YouTube video, also available as a podcast, Stephanie has shared her journey, a few helpful tips, and words of encouragement that we can all learn from.

This interview style video/ podcast is highly recommended for EVERYONE... not just those that are Type 1 Diabetic. Please share this post and its links on social media and with your loved ones. The more we share, the more lives we can touch. Comments and questions are strongly encouraged!
